Lady Mustangs Dominate Lady Panthers In Varsity Basketball

After a nerve wrecking 39 to 42 point loss to the Franklin girls JV basketball game the Mustangs were in hope the Mustang JV Boys could turn the tide and get a win against the Panthers. A last second trip to the free throw line gave the Panthers a 51 to 50 lead with five seconds left to play. The Mustangs were not able to get the ball within shooting range and were upset by that final score.
The Lady Mustangs entered the game with a record of 20 and 1 and in some polls ranked as the number two team in the state in the 2-A division. The Lady Mustangs established the pace of the game early and in spite of some cool shooting they were able finish the first quarter head 18 to 12. The second quarter was a different story as the Lady Mustangs went on a 23 to 11 spread and held a 41 to 23 point lead at the half. Both teams adjusted their game plan at the half time which resulted in a low scoring third quarter in which the Panthers held an 11 to 8 advantage. The Lady Mustangs stepped up the pressure in the fourth quarter limiting the Lady Panthers to just two points while adding 19 of their own to take a 68 to 36 point lead. Aalyah led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points followed by Shay Tisho with 13. Shay Sutton defense in the forth earned her the Player of the Game award.
The Mustang Boys fell behind in the first quarter with a blitz of attacks and accurate shooting by the Panthers who took a 23 to 12 point lead. The Mustangs adjusted their defense in the second quarter at limited the Panthers to 9 points while adding 19 of their own and appeared to be headed to the dressing room with the lead until the Panthers sank a long shot at the buzzer to capture the lead. The Panthers turned the tide in the fourth with a 19 to 13 point advantage and falling behind 51 to 44. The Panthers and the Mustangs each added 27 points in the final quarter. At one moment the Mustangs took a two point lead but were unable to hold it against the scoring duo of Zack De La Cruz (20) and Brock Kloepell (22). Dela Cruze fire up the fans with four shots from long range late in the same to seal the win. The Mustangs were led by Tyler Waliezer who broke the Panthers Zone on seven occasions to get points and was successful on two opportunities for a three point play. Tommy Brennan added 12 and Cody Lominac scored 11. Waliezer received the Player Of The Game Award for the third time.
