Roger Martin “Marty” Capps Junior, 33, of Canton, was arrested and charged with two counts of misdemeanor Resisting A Public Officer by deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
Members of the Unified Narcotics Investigative Team and Waynesville TAC (Tactical Anti-Crime) stopped a vehicle on South Main Street in Waynesville in which Mr. Capps was a passenger. Mr. Capps exited the vehicle and fled on foot in an attempt to elude the deputies. Law enforcement officers gave chase and Mr. Capps was arrested on Chelsea Road.
Capps has been on post- release (parole) since November 2016 from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections for possession of firearm by a felon and three counts of possession stolen goods convictions. These convictions were associated with an incident that occurred in January 2015, where Capps and two others led law enforcement officers on a high speed chase. This chase ended in a single vehicle wreck on Old Asheville Highway in Canton.
Parole officers with the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections had been looking for Mr. Capps for outstanding parole violations since January 5, 2017.
Capps was given a $3,000 bond for his charges and will face the parole board for his parole violations.
