Harris Regional Hospital expands access to primary care; welcomes new provider to Cullowhee clinic

Harris Regional Hospital is pleased to welcome Emily Jenkins, FNP to Harris Family Care – Cullowhee.

Jenkins received a Master of Science (Family Nurse Practitioner) degree from Old Dominion University and holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Phoenix. Most recently she practiced in Hertford County in northeastern North Carolina providing primary care to patients of all ages. Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner Jenkins served as a registered nurse for the Hertford (NC) school system, and in home health, skilled care, and hospital settings.

Jenkins will be caring for the Catamounts and surrounding community as part of The Ascent Partnership which is a formal collaboration between Western Carolina University, Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital focused on ensuring access to quality health care in North Carolina’s westernmost counties. Partnership includes training the next generation of health care workers and supporting educational and outreach activities that benefit the health of those living in the region.

Along with the addition of Emily Jenkins, FNP, Harris Family Care – Cullowhee will be offering walk-in appointment availability that began July 30. All non-emergent needs are welcome Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Non-emergent needs include but are not limited to

  • minor cuts, burns, and wounds
  • minor eye injuries, infections or irritations
  • severe cold & flu symptoms
  • sprains
  • muscle aches & pains
  • persistent fever
  • allergies
  • severe earaches
  • upset stomach
  • other non-life threatening but urgent needs
  • occupational Health
  • CDL/DOT physicals

Harris Family Care – Cullowhee is located in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Western Carolina University, 4121 Little Savannah Road, Cullowhee. All patients are welcome, from the community and the university community.
