Trainings for people interested in volunteering at the Clingmans Dome visitor station in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Sugarlands Visitor Center near Gatlinburg.
Volunteers will work one four-hour shift each week, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., during the season April 1 through Nov. 30, with openings available each day except Thursday. The work includes educating visitors about the park, giving them directions and helping them plan their stay. Volunteers work alongside paid staff with the Great Smoky Mountains Association.
New volunteers must attend both orientation sessions, which will focus on resource interpretation and working with the public. Guest speakers will share unique biological and historical information to help volunteers learn more about the Clingmans Dome area.
