The Cherokee Lady Braves has little trouble on Friday on their way to a 61 to 40 point win over the Swain High School Lady Maroon Devils. Swain built a five point lead early but were not able to sustain the lead in the second quarter when the Lady Braves stiffened their press. A last second shot by the Lady Braves sent them to the dressing room at the half with a 29 to 23 point lead. The third period started with the Swain High School Lady Maroon Devils struggling with cold shooting while the Lady Braves were able to go on a 16 to 5 point run and a 16 to 12 point run in the fourth quarter to win the championship before a standing room crowd at the Cherokee High School basketball arena.

The Cherokee Braves came into the game ranked tenth in the state in the single A division and facing Hayesville, a team ranked eleventh. The Braves built an early 33 to 20 point lead at the end of the first quarter. The teams played even basketball in the second going to the dressing room with the Braves leading 55 to 42 at the half . The third and fourth quarters belonged to the Hayesville Yellow Jackets who outscored the Braves 27 to 24 in the third and 27 to 23 in the final quarter. Hayesville was able to shave the deficit to three points with less that a minute to play. The Braves used a spread offense late in the game and were able to preserve the 102 to 96 point lead from the free throw line.
Jason McMillan had 22 points, Justus Day scored 32, Tye Mintz added 18, Steven Straughn helped with 9, Holden Straughn popped in 6 points, Logan Teesateskie scored 11 and Keenan Panther and Cory Junaluska each had two points. For the Yellow Jackets Braxton Cox led with 26 points, Zach Coltrell had 24 points and Josh Coltrell added 14.
