An arrest has been made after the death of a Pisgah Inn employee was ruled a homicide. FBI officials said in a news release the body of Sara Ellis, 29, of Seminole, Florida, showed evidence of foul play.
The Pisgah Inn employee was reported missing about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. She was found by law enforcement about three hours later. Ellis had worked as a pantry cook at the Inn since May. Her body was located off an embankment. A rescue crew found her body located on a trail between the inn and employee housing.
Federal investigators said the Pendergraft confessed to the Pisgah Inn manager on Wednesday that he had killed the woman. The manager turned that information over to authorities and Pendergraft was arrested.
In a press release, authorities say Derek Shawn Pendergraft, 20, of Asheville, is charged with second-degree murder.
Pendergraft is currently in custody. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
