Haywood County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested two people they believe to be involved in a shooting incident on Red Fox Loop Thursday night. Investigators are currently searching for a third person who they believe to be armed and dangerous.
At approximately 7:17 p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a gunshot wound at 82 Red Fox Loop in Clyde. While driving to the scene, communications advised that the suspect vehicle, a two door red blazer, had left the scene. Shortly after this notification, deputies observed the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Carolina Blvd and Morgan Street.
Meanwhile, detectives who were in the area of Red Fox Loop shortly before the shooting for unrelated matters, returned to investigate the situation. Detectives discovered 30-year-old Jason Tassin had been shot and was transported to the hospital with a non- life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
As detectives canvassed the area to learn more about who was responsible for the shooting, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the suspicious vehicle. Deputies observed the driver as Carisa Horner and the passenger as Joshua Phillips. Both were detained and detectives later charged Joshua Douglas Phillips,26, of Canton, with Attempted Robbery – Dangerous Weapon and Conspire Robbery Dangerous Weapon, and charged Carisa Horner,23, of Clyde, with felony Accessory after the Fact. Phillips is being held at the detention center under a $40,000 secured bond. Horner is being held under a $20,000 secured bond.
Officials are searching for the person they believe to be the shooter. Dustin Jay Surrett, 24, is a white male, approximately 5’9”, weighs around 160 pounds, has brown hair, blue eyes and is considered armed and dangerous.
