American Legion Post 47 Announces The Baseball Schedule

The American Legion Post 47 Baseball team had a record breaking season in 2015 led by Smoky Mountain High School graduate and the Florida State recruit Cal Raleigh who’s number was retired at the end of the season and was named the Regional Player of the Year.  The 2016 team appears to be as strong if not stronger that last year’s team with several veterans back including pitchers Cole Hooper, Hunter Stewart, Ethan Meese, and Nick Worrell. Zebbie Matthews has also pitched some innings for Smoky Mountain.

The schedule gets underway on May 28th with a double header at 4;00 p.m. with Caldwell county. On May 29th the team plays a single game at 7:00 p.m. at Hendersonville. June third the team will start a three game home stand at Rutherfordton, followed by Hickory on June 4th, Asheville on the sixth, and Burke on the eighth. These games are at 7:00 at the Tuscola High School baseball field in Waynesville. The team travels to Taylorsville on the twelfth, for a double header starting at 4:00 p.m. and Cherryville on the eighteenth for a double header starting at 6:00 p.m..  The team returns home for a single game against Hendersonville on the twentieth at 7:00 p.m.. The season starts winding down with away games against Rutherfordton on the 24th, Asheville on the 26th, and Hickory on the 27th all starting at 7:00 p.m.. They close out the regular season on July first against Burke at home at 7:00 p.m..
