There’s another Willy Wonka movie in the works . . . and this one takes place BEFORE the story of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
The script hasn’t been written, and there aren’t any details on what it’s about . . . other than that it’ll involve Wonka’s “early adventures,” whatever those might be. The novel DID have some of his backstory, like how he found the Oompa Loompas.
It’s also unknown if it’ll feature any other existing characters from the books or movies. And sources say that if it’s successful, it would be made into a franchise.
For what it’s worth, there were only two Roald Dahl books . . . “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the sequel “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator” . . . and nothing specifically on the Wonka character or his “early adventures.”
Dahl died in 1990, and he’s probably spinning in his grave . . . as is the original movie Willy Wonka Gene Wilder, who died just two months ago.
Dahl hated the original movie, while Wilder hated the Tim Burton / Johnny Depp version, even though he reportedly never even saw it. Oh, and Burton was also not a fan of the original movie. So, it’s safe to say EVERYONE is upset about this.
To be clear, Dahl’s estate has signed off on the new movie, and the man who manages it is onboard as a producer.
