North Carolina voters approved a $2 billion bond that will fund government construction projects through a Tuesday referendum without raising taxes in the state.
The University of North Carolina system will get $980 million, including more than $110 million for construction of a new science building at Western Carolina University in Jackson County.
Community colleges will receive $350 million for needed repairs at all 58 campuses across the state. Southwestern Community College will also receive $7,170,597 for renovations and repairs.
The rest will be spread between water and sewer infrastructure loans and grants for local governments, agriculture labs and research facilities, state parks, historical attractions, trails and the North Carolina Zoo, and N.C. National Guard.
